My No Good Very Bad Day

Two days ago I woke up and thought-this is going to be a GREAT day-my daddy is off work and my mommy is post-call so I will get lots of attention and get to play in the yard with my brother! All of this was true and it actually happened-we played LOTS in the yard. But then something bad happened. I was playing in the snow and I felt something sharp! Ouch! When daddy brought me inside I started licking my side because it still hurt. Mommy and daddy went out to dinner and when they got back I was STILL licking my side so mommy decided to look at it. Mommy screamed HOLY CRAP and then she started saying we were going to have to go somewhere called the emergency vet and get stitched up because I had a REALLY BIG cut on my side. Mommy also said it was going to cost us an arm and a leg to get me fixed up but mommy and daddy love me a lot so they said we would go anyways.
When we got to the vet he looked at my cut too and then said I would have to go under anesthesia to have my cut looked at more and stitched up. The next thing I remember is that I woke up and my cut was all better and I had this BIG, STUPID plastic thing on my head. It is really hard to walk around with it on because I get stuck on everything and bang into the walls. It is pretty fun in the snow though because if I stick my head in the snow then I can fling snow everywhere with my cone!

I am recovering well and I feel pretty good but I'm REALLY BORED because mommy and daddy won't let me run or even walk far or play with my brother Chase or my best friend Schpotty until my stitches are out in 10 days. Mommy says my stitches cost too much for me to pull them out running around like a maniac!! I miss you Schpotty!!!

A Weekend of Christmas Fun!

Last weekend Phil and I had a great weekend together celebrating Christmas! The weekend started with a Christmas party at my mom's house on Saturday. Lots of great food and we got a chance to see many of my relatives that we have not seen since last year! We also did our annual modified white elephant gift exchange and Phil and I ended up with some great gifts-a Rabbit wine opener which is AWESOME and a bottle of Jack Daniels for Phil!
The weekend then continued with a party for my dad's side of the family at my condo. Phil and I had a great time decorating the condo for the party as you can see from the pictures!
Chase also thought he would help by trying to eat one of the stockings-this is him after getting yelled at for eating it-I'm sorry mommy I swear!
Although the space was small we made due and it turned out to be a great time! It was wonderful to visit with my family and of course we ate way too much food-but that's what you are supposed to do at Christmas parties right?

CANCER FREE

One week ago my best friend Kate found out that after 4 rounds of chemo she is CANCER FREE!! She still has to do 3 weeks of radiation which will start Jan. 6th but no more chemo!! What a wonderful gift from God that Kate will be able to spend Christmas with her family in California in remission! Please continue to pray for Kate that she has a happy, healthy Christmas and that radiation goes smoothly in January!

The Graduation of Dr. Andrea Remick!

A couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to drive to Chicago for my good friend Andrea's graduation from physical therapy school! After 3 long years of hard work Andrea is officially Dr. Remick, Doctor of Physical Therapy! My friend Tony and I were crazy and due to bad weather and wanting to save money on a hotel room drove both to Chicago and back in one day! We left at 5:30am and got to Chicago about 9:30am. We then spent the day in the city at Andrea's graduation and then at a wonderful dinner that her parents hosted later in the day. We then left Chicago at 9pm and drove back to Michigan! All the driving was totally worth it though-it was wonderful to see Andrea and her family since I hadn't seen them since my wedding. It was also great to finally spend some time with Tony and catch up since we also hadn't seen each other in over a year!

My Very Brave and Amazing Best Friend

As most of you already know my best friend in the world Kate was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, Stage IA, in September of this year. She started chemotherapy the second week in October and has since completed all four of her scheduled rounds. Next she will have a PET scan this week on Friday and if that is negative for any cancer activity in the lymph nodes she will be officially done with chemo and will move on to 3 weeks of radiation therapy. Through all of this Kate has been so amazing and absolutely the bravest person I know! She has had such a great attitude and rather than complaining has just taken everything in stride and continued to live her daily life! Despite some side effects from chemo like nausea, headache and feeling exhausted she has not missed any class, appointments with her clients and has even managed to get on her bike for some short rides. I'm so incredibly proud of her and I know not many people would be able to go through this with the same amazing strength and attitude!

I was lucky enough to have 2 weeks of vacation in the beginning of October and was able to spend 5 days in Colorado with Kate the week she was starting chemotherapy. Despite multiple appointments and chemo that week we had a great time and did lots of fun things. We went hiking and even horseback riding in the beautiful colorado mountains!

Please pray that Kate's PET scan is negative this Friday so she can move on to her next phase of treatment!

I got to play today with my best friend!

Oh my goodness, Daddy had the day off today and just happened to get a call from Elissa. Elissa's dog Schpotty and I have been best friends since I was just a little puppy! We ran around the yard like morons and had so much fun!!!

This is me chasing Schpotty around by his tail! I love holding his tail in my mouth as we run around at 100 miles and hour!

On the right is me showing off how dirty I get. All the drool from playing so hard gets me really gross! Daddy calls it getting "schlobbered" which I think is really funny!

Look at how FAST we are!

While this may look like I am attempting to kill Schpotty, I am just having a ton of fun! We love to wrestle! This is why we get all schlobbery!

I can't wait to play again! But for right now, it is time for a nap.

Its Christmas Time!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Phil and I had a great weekend and got to see most of our families! We had Thanksgiving dinner with my Dad and Cathy (thanks again for a wonderful dinner Cathy!) and then Phil went on to Ann Arbor to both his Aunt Pattie's house and then my mom's house. I unfortunately did not go with Phil to Ann Arbor because I worked a 24 hour shift and got off Thanksgiving morning at 8 am. Friday night my mom and Ron and Phil's parents as well as his brother Mikey came up for a second Thanksgiving dinner at our place! It was great to see everyone as we have not all been together in quite some time. Mikey then stayed with us through Sunday morning and it was awesome to spend some time with him-wish he lived closer so we could see him more often! Sunday I took the dogs to the dog park and then Phil and I started decorating for Christmas. We had a lot of fun and watched our favorite Christmas movie Elf. We got the tree up and decorated and (cross your fingers) as of tonight the boys have left it alone and the ornaments are still intact!

Trip to Cincinnati!

This past weekend Phil and I went to Cincinnati to visit Meghan and Pete! We had such a great weekend and can't wait to go back and visit again! The weekend was very relaxing and started with Pete making some delicious pancakes Saturday morning. We then watched Michigan lose to Ohio State and drank a lot of beer! Phil and Pete spent a lot of quality time playing Guitar Hero together which was nice because it gave Meg and I some time to catch up too! On Sunday we went to church in the morning and then got a tour of the city-Phil and I have decided that we really like Cincinnati and it will definitely be on the list for my fellowship applications. Meg and Pete were nice enough to let us bring Chase (we decided to leave Logan with my friend Joy and her dog Lilo) and he was soo good. Chase loves being the center of attention so he was in heaven the whole weekend. He also got to meet Meg and Pete's two cats and he loved them! He was so gentle and nice to them and very curious about what they actually were. Shadow decided he liked Chase and below are some pictures of them meeting nose to nose for the first time.

Our baby dogs!

Well, Beth and I were enjoying our wonderful life together as newly weds. One day, I wake up to my crazy wife literally jumping on the bed yelling at me: "Get up POOP!! I want a doggie!"

Seriously. It really happened like that.

After her convincing me for an hour or so, we decided to go look at dog shelters for that special dog. Our intention was not necessarily to get one that day, but we were open to the idea. But most importantly, we wanted to get a somewhat smaller dog since we have a pretty tiny condo. Yep, a smaller dog.

But who could possibly turn down this face:

That's right, you can't turn down that cute baby face! He was so darn adorable we couldn't help but adopt him! He was 35 pounds and just a bundle of energy and fur! Our rationality was "He's almost 6 months old, he can't possibly get that much bigger, right?"

Right?

Ok, so he got quite a bit bigger. He's about 60 pounds now and all grown up. He's still a bundle of energy and fur, though he is a little lazier.

So back to our story. We got Logan when he was about 5 months old. He was a wonderful dog, but he needed a brother to keep him occupied. Well... at least Beth seemed to think so. Beth spent days and days searching on Pet Finder for the perfect dog. After many more days of begging me, she convinced me to go visit Chase at Last Day Dog Rescue to meet him. After a couple meetings we took Chase home and look how cute they look together!

Welcome to our blog!!

Phil and I have finally decided to start a blog! Can't say that we have the most exciting lives ever so it will probably be pretty boring but at least we can post some intermittent updates when something fun happens! Check back for more posts soon!
